Over the last two weeks I’ve received over 15 spam comments on two blog entries (old ones at that). A lot get caught before anyone ever gets a chance to see them, but some get through and I have to manually get rid of them. Suffice to say it’s a pain.
Anyway, until I find a better way to deal with it I’m denying comments to posts with spam replies. If you find any blog posts that you can’t give feedback on, that’s the reason why.
No doubt they’ll move on to another entry, but at least that would be some variety. I have other ideas if this keeps happening, but we’ll see what happens.
The best solution to this is just to ask your visitors a simple question before allowing them to post comments. This way you will deal with most automated blog spam.
Just look at my blog where you will be asked “which year is it?”. Automated spamming bots fail to answer this simple wuestions, but human don’t.
Hmm, now that is a good idea… Thanks Daniel! I feel sort of foolish, such a simple thing and I didn’t even think about it!
