Thanks Cat!

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

I just want to make a quick post to give a big thank you to my sister, Cat, for giving me an idea that you might notice I’ve implemented on my blog. She was telling me that when she writes a long post that she puts in a cut so you click a link to read more. I thought this was a great idea and thanks to her mentioning it I found out it’s a feature that my blog can also have, I’d just never noticed it before!

You may notice on some posts that at the bottom there is now a link you can click to read more of the blog entry. If you think the title and the introduction sound interesting then please feel free to read on (you can also see the full post by clicking reply and then scrolling up), however now it’s more of a choice to view the insane amount of text and pictures I may upload.

I won’t be doing this for all my posts though… Some I feel warrant it because they’re quite wordy, but ones with a few shortish paragraphs aren’t long enough for me to think it’s worth doing.

Anyway, I hope you all like the change and another huge thanks to the best sister in the world!

I really do love WordPress – I like the appearance, the functionality, the control I have; in fact, there is hardly anything I don’t like about WordPress… notice I said hardly.

Updated music!

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

I decided it was time for a bit of an overhaul where my favourite tunes are concerned.

I removed a few of the songs I had, replaced them with others and added more besides. The list was at 30 and now it’s at 50!

Blog anti-spam measures

Monday, January 15th, 2007

I finally took some actual action and activated Akismet. I partly want to get rid of the spam, and partly just want to see if this will actually work. There are other methods (including a suggestion made in a comment to me by a kind stranger) and other anti-spam plugins, but quite a few people have sung the praises of this one so I’ll give it a try.

Because of this, comments and pings can now be sent without waiting for me to validate them (unless your message is mistaken as spam and then you’ll need to have a little patience).

We’ll see how this goes. I really don’t like having to moderate every comment or turn on required name and email as I appreciate the speed and anonymity of the internet.

I’d just like to note that so far, in the brief time this plugin has been active for, it’s found 43 spam and only got two of those wrong.

My Site blog category!

Monday, January 15th, 2007

I found myself looking back at old posts I’d made and I actually found quite a few based upon my blog, site and whatnot even though they were under a category about me. They don’t really make sense there in my opinion… which is why I created a new category so I can discuss all my website crap away from my personal life crap.

More to come soon.

They’ve won the battle, but not the war!

Friday, December 15th, 2006

I’ve been continuing to get blog spam and it’s very annoying, so I’ve altered my blog posts so that comments need to be firstly approved before they appear…

I’m posting about this for two reasons. Firstly so anyone that cares won’t be concerned if their comments don’t appear straight away, and secondly so that my friends will test it out for me so I know the settings are working. Much appreciated. :)

Maybe I’ll change it back in the future, but it’s too much of a hassle at the moment.

P.S – Hope everyone is getting ready for the festive season! Flopsy says hello to everyone!

Blog spam must be in vogue…

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Over the last two weeks I’ve received over 15 spam comments on two blog entries (old ones at that). A lot get caught before anyone ever gets a chance to see them, but some get through and I have to manually get rid of them. Suffice to say it’s a pain.

Anyway, until I find a better way to deal with it I’m denying comments to posts with spam replies. If you find any blog posts that you can’t give feedback on, that’s the reason why.

No doubt they’ll move on to another entry, but at least that would be some variety. I have other ideas if this keeps happening, but we’ll see what happens.

2nd website!

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Thanks to the ever amazing email provider that is Runbox, I now have new webspace. It’s got nifty features that my present one (Honest Networks) doesn’t have, although the one I do have has many merits also.

I definitely do not want to get rid of HN by any means and intend to keep my domain here, however I have a 2nd domain I use just for email (with Runbox) which I can now use as a website too. As I said, it has some great features I’d like to take advantage of and, as it comes with my email, it seems a shame to waste it.

The question though is what do I put on the new website? Do I split the site I have? Think of something new?

Suggestions are welcome…

Favourite Tunes… continued!

Friday, June 9th, 2006

Yeah so I’ve added all the ones that were there before, and a few more besides.

There’s a few plus points to its new location too.

  • It’s easier to get to from a blog you might be visiting already than some random page
  • I no longer need to use Webjay so there’s no advertisement for the 2nd track
  • For the WordPress version I was able to add a website for the band (click Info to see it) as well as album art
  • Not as much trouble to update now

Enjoy and leave me a comment if there’s a song you’d like me to add!

New page!

Friday, June 9th, 2006

If you’d just take a moment to look at My Favourite Tunes Page, you may recognise the starting of something I had before. You wouldn’t be mistaken.

I’ve decided to ditch a page on my website (namely my Music Playlist) and let it fit snugly on a page within my blog.

It took me a while to get things sorted and arrange it where I wanted it to go, but now that’s done I think I’ll take a break and add the rest of the songs sometime later today. :)
